This section provides you with the information you need to activate and configure the following accessibility features: closed captioning for the hearing impaired and audio description for the visually impaired.
Closed captioning for the hearing impaired
Closed captions are subtitles that appear at the bottom of the screen when you watch TV. The text offers an abridged version of the onscreen actors’ dialogue, as well as a description of important sound effects. Closed captioning is intended for people who have difficulty hearing.
How to activate closed captioning
1. Press “SETTINGS” once to bring up the “QUICK SETTINGS” menu.
2. Scroll down through the menu and select “CAPTION OFF/ON/ON WITH MUTE”
3. Select “ON” or “ON WITH MUTE” and press
to confirm.
- To change how the subtitles are displayed, press “SETTINGS” a second time to open the “GENERAL SETTINGS” menu.
Scroll through the menu and select one of the following subtitle settings:
i. S-t: Background
ii. S-t: Character s
iii. S-t: Options
iv. S-t: Source
Audio description for the blind and visually impaired
Intended for the blind and visually impaired, audio description enables users to hear a description of what is happening onscreen.
How to activate audio description
1. Press the “SETTINGS” button twice to open the “GENERAL SETTINGS” menu.

2. Use the arrows
to select “Settings and Applications” in the “My illico” section.
3. Use the arrows to select “Settings”.
4. Use
to select “Accessibility”.
5. Use
to select “Closed Captioning”.
6. To finish, select the subtitle options that suit your needs.
How to modify subtitles
1. Press
to go to the main menu.

i. Audio accessibility: lets you change the audio tracks (SAP).
ii. Closed Captioning (CC): lets you change the options relating to subtitles.
How to configure the style of subtitles (closed captioning must be on or on with mute)
1. Press
to access the display settings and select “Automatic” or “Customized”. Once the display has been
configured,you can modify the closed caption settings.
Closed caption mode
- Digital Source 1 is the standard closed caption channel.
- Digital Source 2 is the recommended option for language selection.
- Digital Source 3 to 6 are not being used.
Audio description for the blind and visually impaired
Intended for the blind and visually impaired, audio description enables users to hear a description of what is happening onscreen. Please note that, even if you activate this option, the channel you would like to watch must offer audio description.
How to activate audio description
OPTION 1: By pressing the * button then EXIT button on your New Generation remote (or by pressing the D button then EXIT button on your simplified remote).
OPTION 2:
1. Press
to go to the main menu.
2. Using the arrows, select “Settings and Applications” in the “My illico” section.
3. Select “SETTINGS” using the arrows

4. Select “ACCESSIBILITY.”
5. Select “AUDIO ACCESSIBILITY.”
6. Then select “AUDIO DESCRIPTION” and “ON/OFF.”
