Your Wi-Fi network’s signal is transmitted via router antennae (source) and picked up by various devices, for example a tablet or a mobile phone. Just like light, rays are emitted by the Wi-Fi router and become weaker the further they travel and when objects obstruct their path. The signal is therefore stronger closer to the router and becomes weaker the further away and when it is blocked by obstacles.
