Using text messaging (SMS)
Text messaging is a fast, economical, and discreet way to communicate with friends and family.

Called “text messaging”, “SMS” (Short Message System), or even “txt”, text messaging is a quick, discreet, and economical way of communicating with friends, family, and colleagues.


Text messages are short messages — up to 160 characters (approximately one or two sentences) — that you type on your mobile-phone’s keypad and then send to your contact’s mobile phone.


With this functionality, you may send text messages to all contacts who have a mobile phone. In fact, the majority of mobile-phone providers already offer this service.


Your contact’s mobile phone will ring or vibrate almost instantly after your message is sent to indicate it has arrived.

Depending on your mobile phone, there are several ways of sending a text message.

Note: You cannot send a text, photo, or video message to a land line.

Your mobile phone informs you that a new message has arrived with a sound alert or by displaying a symbol or the actual message on-screen.

If your mobile phone is turned off or if you are outside the coverage zone, your messages will be stored for 72 hours. They will be sent to you as soon as your mobile phone is able to receive them.

Yes. Text messaging is a quick and economical way of staying in touch with friends, family, and colleagues who live outside the country.


The procedure is the same as sending a message within Canada. The contact’s phone number must simply be preceded by the “+” symbol and the country code.


For example, for the United-Kingdom +44 XXX XXXX XXXX

Your message will be divided and sent as two messages or more. Please note that these will be accounted for and invoiced as individual messages.

Note: Some networks are not set up to send a reading notification. In this case, you will not receive one.
