Travelling in roaming mode and abroad
To check the availability of services offered while travelling abroad, consult the following table or contact Videotron’s Customer Service.
When you travel, availability of services in roaming mode varies according to the network you are accessing. The following table outlines the services available on different networks.

² May be activated on request
³ Data-transmission speed may vary depending on the speed supported by the network serving the area in which you are located.
We’ll inform you of the roaming rates that apply to the country you’re visiting.
As soon as your mobile phone connects to a partner network, you’ll receive a text message indicating the voice, data and text message rates that apply for roaming in the United States and abroad.
You can always disable or enable text alerts by contacting Customer Service.
Rates for services vary depending on where you’re using your mobile phone. The following table shows rates for services used outside your usual calling area.
Note that differences in pricing between the Videotron network and its partner network are minimal and apply only to the following services:
- Voice mail
- Call forwarding
- Internet on your mobile

Note 1:
The characteristics of an airtime plan do not apply to roaming use. Calls made when roaming are counted individually or deducted from a roaming package, if any. They are in no case deducted from the airtime plan.
To learn more about our roaming packages, visit our Coverage and roaming section.
Note 2:
When roaming outside of Canada, roaming charges apply when sending text messages. Rates for roaming outside of Canada are on a per-use basis and are not deducted from your monthly messaging package if you have subscribed to a message package.
Note 4:
When roaming, data-transmission charges are applied by segments of units (depending on the agreement between the Videotron network and the other networks). There is no deduction from your monthly Internet-on-your-mobile package, because this only applies to Videotron’s extended network.
Note 5:
While roaming outside of Canada, charges may apply when sending and receiving mobile email. In certain cases, there may be a deduction from the message package (provided you have subscribed to a message package) or a fixed charge per use if you do not have a package. Data-transmission charges while roaming may also apply.
Note 6:
Roaming charges also apply when you retrieve or listen to your voice messages outside Videotron’s extended network.
Calls
For local calls, dial the area code if there is one, then the number. To make calls to Canada or the United States, press and hold the 0 until the “+” symbol appears. Then dial 1, the area code, and the number. For all other countries, press and hold the 0 until the “+’ symbol appears, then dial the country code, the area code, and the number.
The “+” symbol replaces the international code so you don’t have to memorize the code of the country you are visiting. Whether you’re in Canada or abroad, the country code, area code, and phone number must be preceded by the international access code. In Canada and the United States it’s 011. In the UK or France it’s 00. In Hong Kong it’s 01, and so on. There are almost as many international codes as there are countries.
