IMAP and POP are two email protocols that allow you to access your email.
POP (Post Office Protocol)
POP allows you to access your emails on a remote server and download them to your computer.
Emails are deleted from the server and downloaded to your computer. Some email programs allow you to keep a copy of your emails on the server.

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol)
Unlike POP, IMAP does not only allow you to retrieve your emails, but also synchronizes your messages because the emails stay on the server.
IMAP therefore allows you to access your email from any device (for example, several different computers, tablets or smartphones). On the other hand, the amount of space available depends on the server. From time to time, you must sort through and delete the messages you no longer need.
