Municipal Tax for 9-1-1

As of August 1, 2016, the municipal tax of $0.40 a month was ajusted to $0.46 a month per telephone number has been appearing on your invoice. This tax is intended to fund 911 emergency centres. It will be added to all wireline and wireless telephone services for residential and business customers.

Pursuant to an initiative by municipal associations, the City of Montreal and representatives from 911 emergency centres and telephone companies, the new laws required to implement the measure were put forward by the Ministre des Affaires municipales, des Régions et de l'Occupation du territoire and adopted by the National Assembly of Quebec in the spring of 2008.

Videotron now displays the amount of this tax, which applies to all current telephone service rates, on its monthly invoice.
